Thank you so much for this research! I am interested in listing with eLance, Guru and other freelance sites, but trying to get some insight first into their validity. I LOVE the strategies you came up with (true scientists!). If I still decide to become a provider with one of these sites, I will at least be more saavy, thanks to you!

Actually I was eager to try some freelance websites and get extra income. But I've been reading 'not so good' reviews.
Enjoyed reading your post and your answers to employers that pay under the job real cost.
Gratz from portugal.

For those that are looking for a way to freelance, know that it will not be easy but it is possible. We started our business from our homes. 1) We started by providing services we did well and other know we did well. We started as a group of engineers and business analysts that were recently laid off or were recent college grads with prior industry experience. 2) We leaned on family, friends, and former coworkers, and associates for work and referrals 3) We gave something away. We gave free advice, free minor services, and a percentage of earnings for referrals. 4) We encouraged previous customers to write honest testimonials if they likeed our services and entered business competitions to boost positive exposure about our new company 4) We used technology to cut cost. 5) We used technology to advertise our business at much lower rates. We used free social networking sites and built a basic website to advertise our business and to develop a web presences. Hope this helps. These are main steps we took and thus far it is working.
